Index - Selected Pre Grouping and Joint Companies

Note: The following sections contain brief notes on various pre grouping (pre-1923) companies and the three main jointly operated companies with a summary of their freight livery. These notes were intended to allow modelling of a few goods vehicles from 'foreign' companies to pre-grouping and early Big Four layouts. Where sources of additional information on individual companies are known the details are included in the relevant sub section. The sketches are all ideas I had for models which might be made in British N Gauge either from kits or by 'kit bashing' and several models have been made.

A great deal of information regarding the pre-grouping railways has been lost over the years however there are several associations and study groups working to piece together the history of these lines These groups offer their membership a great deal of highly detailed information on their respective companies In the following pages I have, where possible, included contact details for such associations.
