Off-Line Browsing

This section provides external links to sites offering software for off-line web browsing. I have not used such as system for some years (and the program I use is no longer available) so I asked for feedback on this.

Ian Mackay, the freeware expert at Disabled Access to Computing, suggested:
The alt.comp.freeware choice would be

HTTRACK (WinHTTrack) (Freeware) (open source: GNU GPL) )

Windows OS: Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP
Other OS: Linux; Unix
Languages: English and other languages

Description: WinHTTrack is an easy-to-use offline browser utility. It allows you to download a World Wide website from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting html, images, and other files from the server to your computer. WinHTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the 'mirrored' website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online. WinHTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. WinHTTrack is fully configurable, and has an integrated help system.

NOTES: WinHTTrack is the Windows release of HTTrack.A progam that allows downloading the entire GANSG website so that it can be stored on the hard drive or placed on a CD complete with working menu system and links.
